Every wonder how jade is made?




Jade is a stone ingrained in Chinese art, culture and history, stretching 9,000 years back into the ancient and enormous Chinese empire. Jade has always been a special stone, used not just for fine objects but also as material for grave goods for the imperial family.

The definition "jade" is used to define two minerals of similar appearance but different chemical composition: nephrite, a calcium- magnesium silicate, and jadeite, a silicate of sodium and aluminum.

Both minerals are found in a wide range of shades of green, brown, yellow, grey and pink and may be either translucent or opaque. They may be milky or cloudy in appearance and sometimes speckled with tiny black spots.

The most prized of the jades, the so-called "Chinese jade" (jadeite) is emerald green and so beautiful and rare that it has become exorbitantly expensive. In fact, jade is a good investment only if purchased at a reasonable price. A sound policy is never pay more for Chinese jade than you would for an emerald.



Road Trip to Ipoh and Penang

Off to IPOH, Perak and to Penang food road trip!


The cantonese name for IPOH actually derives from the word Yee Poh meaning found treasure. And the found treasure here is GOOD FOOD! Ipoh is also known for their famous 'White Coffee'. It's a beautiful Saturday morning drive from the big city and only a couple hours away from the infamous dishes that drive many Malaysians drooling. Let's see if it passes the taste test!

1st stop, Restaurant Sun Seng Fatt on Jalan Market. Finding a seat here feels like a challenge on the 'Amazing Race' but that only means one thing, the food must be good,...rite?

Dish 1: Famous Ipoh hor-fun. The dish is simple but it is tasty. However, I've had better broth.


Dish 2: This has got to be one of the BEST steamed chicken I've ever tasted. It's tenderness is close to a good fish fillet and seasoned perfectly.

Dish 3: Ipoh hor fun dry curry. Although is 'kon low' (dry), it's pretty drenched in the rich curry sauce. Tasty!

Dish 4: Dumplings. Generous in portion, farely good.



White Coffee! It's good, strong though but it definately will help on the next 2 hour drive to Penang!
The verdict, worth the drive if you don't mind the journey. Next up, Penang! =) In search for the best Oyster Omelette and Fried Kuey Teow!

A simple seafood restaurant that features a variety of mouth watering dishes. Surprisingly, besides the great seafood served here the PORK RIBS (the other white meat=D) is to DIE FOR!

Tender, succulent and perfectly caramelized with a thick glaze of sweet and tangy flavours. Each bites craves for the next and it's easy to understand why when you've put your 1st bite into it.


(fried calamari)
This ocean creature is lightly fried in a light, fluffy batter tossed in fragrant curry leaves and salted egg yolk for EXTRA crisp and flavors that would knock you OFF your feet!

(steam white pomphret)
Flaky and moist in texture, this simple dish is incredibly tasty . Garnished with cilantro and ginger slices to bring out the flavor, the fish is rested on a shallow bed of soy sauce.
